A (Bigger) Big Boy Room

Right before Landon turned three, we redid his bedroom. It hasn't changed since, but he's outgrown the airplane theme and also needs new furniture with more storage space. We've been talking about how he'd like the room to look and he's wanting to go with an outdoor/campy theme. I don't like to go crazy with a theme, but I've found a few ideas that I like.

This  is actually a board I saw for a bathroom, but I think it would make a great bedroom too.

I really love this Adventure Forest by Tiffany Jayne art print

But what I think I'll end up doing is designing the room around this print. It's just perfect because our boy truly is our greatest adventure! And here's a peek at my rough draft design board. The colors are perfect for a young boy and it flows well with the colors through the rest of the house.  I'm excited to get started and hope to have his new room ready before summer break. I better get busy!

Have a great day!

bathroom remodel

A few months ago, we noticed a weak spot in our bathroom floor. On closer inspection, we discovered that we'd had a slow water leak under the bathtub for sometime and also some water damage to the walls. Rather than spending money to patch up a few things here and there, we decided to go with a complete overhaul. We're working with a great company and couldn't be happier with how everything is coming along. Right now we're staying at my mom's until the project is finished. Once we're back home, I'll show the finished room and give all the sources. I did want to give a little peek into my design ideas though.  You can follow along on Instagram for some progress pics. Dress My Entertainment Center

This is a picture of our entertainment center.  I cannot decide how to decorate it.  I've had the same boring decorations on it for what seems like forever.  Any ideas?  I've thought about a monogrammed platter and floral arrangement for the top, but am not sure about the dropped top shelves.  And the glass shelves on either side of the TV, which are removable/adjustable. Matching topiaries perhaps?  I'd love to see your suggestions.  If you want to dress my entertainment center, send me an email with your ideas... thehillbillychicks {at} yahoo {dot} com.  I'll post the top 3 entries and select my favorite look. The winner will receive a $10 Starbucks card.  *Don't worry about the shelves on the very bottom or the drawers. I've got that covered.

Big Boy Room Reveal

Landon's big boy room is finally complete. It turned out wonderfully and he wants to spend all his time in there now. I still have some work to do on his headboard,  the closet and there's a few more accessories I'm looking for, but other than that, the room is complete.

The bedding is Kingston from Pottery Barn Kids.  I found the cute airplane pillows at HomeGoods and they were on clearance - all 3 pillows for less than $15. The cubby/storage unit and baskets are from Lowes.  My favorite thing in the room is the watercolor print from Rachelle Anne Miller.  The airplane figurine you see beneath it is Precious Moments. The great birth print and ABC/123 prints are from MosiesPosies. I love how she incorporated chevron into the birth print.

My mom and I made the curtains. They are actually made from sheets I saw and then tracked down on eBay. They were the inspiration for the room, along with the Rachelle Anne Miller print. I'm so pleased with how the room came together. It's  a cozy and fun space that has a theme without being too "themey". Perfect for our little boy to grow with.

Autumn Inspirations

I love, love, love spending time on Pinterest. I've been looking for inspiration for our front porch for fall and have found so many good ideas. I'm planning on painting our front door red - that never seems to go out of style. And I definitely like the chalkboard idea {I'll I put a chalboard just about anywhere}. I'm also thinking about adding some curtains. I like the softness they would add and the fact that you can close them for privacy. I'm making my plans now so I can get started once we're back from the beach. How are you decorating your porch?

I've been seeing lots of textured pillows popping up for fall...linen, corduroy, etc.  The pillows pictured above are $29.99 at Pottery Barn {on sale now for $19.99}. I need way too many pillows to buy them at that price, but I do have a few old corduroy skirts that could easily be made into pillows - just add a row of  black buttons. The pillows I made for summer turned out pretty well, so I'm going to try it again for fall.

So much to do, so much fun to have. Oh, how I love fall and all the fun it brings. Now I'm off to enjoy a cup of chai and listen to the rain.

Coming tomorrow: Cranberry Orange Biscotti

The Search Is Over

The search is over. I finally found the dresser for our hallway. It fits the space perfectly and was a steal for just $60. It does need a little TLC and some new hardware, but that's part of the fun of buying older furniture. It's very heavy and solid.  The six drawers are perfect for storage and will hold all my craft supplies, holiday linens, etc. Now I just have to find the perfect accessories for the top, including a new lamp.

I was in the family room last night after Landon went to sleep, spending some time with my Kindle and could not stop looking into the hall to admire my find. It doesn't take much to make me happy.  I'll post some pictures of the dresser in our actual hallway soon. The picture above is from the online listing.

Happy Friday everyone. Have a great Easter weekend!
