Waste Not, Want Not

An average family of four currently tosses out an estimated $590 per year, just in meat, fruits, vegetables and grain products. How does your family measure up to this? I'm more aware than ever now of how much food my family wastes & am always thinking of ways to use up leftovers. In this economy, who can afford to be wasting food?

Do you have any tips for avoiding waste? A special way to give new life to leftovers? Share your thoughts!

  1. As for leftovers, we share them with our parents next door. They do the same and none of us has to eat the same meal twice. And then we added pigs to our farm. Not for the city, of course, and not a new idea but turning garbage into ham is makiing me feel good.

  2. Sharing with your parents is a great idea. My mom, sister & brother-in-law live just a few blocks away, so we may have to try that too.

Life on a farm must be great. I was just telling my husband the other day that I'd like to get a few chickens this spring.
